Now in its 45th year, the London Marathon is one the most popular marathon distance races attracting runners from across the globe and raising much needed funds for charities. Biggleswade Athletic Club had several members running this prestigious event, all looking to take on the challenge of completing the 26.2 mile course through the streets of London. The day started bright and sunny, a great day for spectating but an extremely hot one for the runners. Everyone did amazingly well considering the conditions though, ably cheered on by the BAC support crew.
Of the BAC runners, Emily Varley - who was running with a Championship place - had had her training impacted by illness and injury in the lead up to the big day unfortunately. But Emily's determination to continue to race still meant coming away with just under 3 1/2 hours and earnt her a 'Good for Age' entry next year - a fantastic achievement. Next to finish was Paul Swinburne with a time of 3:43:33 closely followed by Richard Hill in 3:44:45 and bang on his target time. Richard was the recipient of Biggleswade AC's annual Marathon Club place, drawn from member applications at last December's Fairy Run event. Running on behalf of The Forward Trust was Will Ramsey, and the next BAC runner in with 4:03:15. Amy Robinson followed with her time of 4:29:18, and after her success in being awarded the Newcomer trophy at the recent Biggleswade AC presentation evening, Joanna Morrin crossed the line in 4:58:28. Keith Yexley ran 5:29:22, Abbie Haynes 5:37:15 and Cat Marriott 5:49:34, which (subject to verification) looks to set a new Club record in the BAC V70 women category. Many congratulations to our Club's runners, you are all stars!
