BAC athletes achieve new PBs in latest QuadKids competition
BAC’s youngest athletes achieved a range of new PBs (personal bests) in the second summer QuadKids competition evening held at our Sandy track on Thursday July 4.
QuadKids is a competition for U-11s encompassing four events - the 75m, 600m, long jump and vortex howler (throwing implement). It is designed to be a first step for young athletes in the world of competitive athletics.
Although the number of competitors was down on that for the first summer QuadKids competition the previous week, the six children who did participate all seemed to enjoy their evening, reported Louise Cant, BAC’s coach for fundamentals who works with that group.
While there were no problems with the heat this time, a strong wind unfortunately made it a little difficult for the competitors, especially when it came to throwing the howler. The standout event in terms of performances was the 75m sprint which saw some big improvements and five children achieve new PBs.
“All the children achieved at least one PB in an event and five of them improved their overall points score. That is fantastic news and what we aim for. Well done to everyone,” said Louise.
“Once again, thank you very much to our officials, coaches, time keeper and starter. Also, to the many parents who stepped up to help with raking, collecting implements and having a go with a stopwatch.”
Further QuadKids competitions are planned for September 10 and 12.
