BAC athletes in action at regional and national indoor championships
Biggleswade AC athletes took part in two major indoor competitions over the weekend of January 31/February 1 and three are due to compete at the English national age group indoor championships this coming weekend.
Freddie Steele (Swansea Harriers/Biggleswade AC) and George Hardy were in track action at the SEAA’s South of England Indoor U20/Senior Championships held at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre in north London last weekend.
Freddie competed in the senior men’s 60m on the Saturday. He finished 5th in his heat with a time of 7.03 to go through to the semi-finals as one of the fastest non-automatic qualifiers. In the semi-finals, he finished 7th so did not make the final but did break the magic 7 seconds barrier with a new PB of 6.98.
On the Sunday, George finished 4th in his heat of the U20M 400m with a time of 51.55, just outside the PB of 51.27 he ran in the London Indoor Games at Lee Valley last month. Unfortunately, with only the winner of each of the three heats, plus the three fastest-non-automatic qualifiers, going through to the final, he missed out on progressing by just over half a second.
Sunday also saw Donncha Blake compete in the men’s pole vault final at the Loughborough Open in the Seb Coe HiPAC (High Performance Athletics Centre), Loughborough University. He was the only U20 athlete in the event and finished 4th behind three senior athletes and ahead of two U23s with a best clearance of 4.40m, just short of his PB/SB of 4.46m.
The BAC athletes listed as entries for the England Athletics National U15/U17/U20 Indoor Championships 2026 in Sheffield on February 7/8 are Donncha Blake - U20M pole vault; George Hardy - U20M 400m; and Nathania Lewis - U15G 200m. Good luck to all.
