Championship medals, club records and PBs at the Bedfordshire Open
Five BAC athletes won medals at this year’s Bedfordshire county 1500 metre track championships* held during the Bedfordshire AAA Open meeting at Bedford International Athletic Stadium on Saturday April 5. There were also notable BAC performances in other events at the meeting, including two provisional new club records and numerous PBs. BAC’s 2025 Bedfordshire County Championships 1500m medal winners were: Gold: Richard Bevan, M-40, 5 mins 01 secs, an SB Silver: Theo Milner, U-13B, 5 mins 26.72 secs Silver: Lauren Bone, U-15G, 5 mins 18.42 secs Silver: Sidney Hammond, U-17M, with a new PB of 4 mins 26.61 secs (beating his own previous best of 4 mins 33 secs set at the PANVAC Middle Distance Night Open in Peterborough only two days earlier) Bronze: Oliver Weddell, U-17M, with a time of 4 mins 28.78 secs – a new PB by 15 secs Other BAC highlights during the 1500m championships included a great battle between club mates Sid and Ollie in the U-17M race, with the former eventually beating the latter by just 2 secs, and Austin Milner producing a fine PB of 5 mins 03.15 secs in his first championship event as an U-15B. The rest of the Bedfordshire Open meeting saw a number of other notable performances by BAC athletes in non-championship events. They included a couple of new club records (subject to confirmation) and numerous other PBs.
The provisional new club records (and of course PBs) were achieved by:
● Oran Blake in the U-17M hammer (5Kg) with a throw of 39.58m − beating his own previous record of 32.36 by over 7 metres! Oran also threw a new PB in the discus (1.5Kg) of 31.80m
● Nathania Lewis in the U-13G long jump with a leap of 4.61m − beating her own previous outdoor record of 4.15m
Other PBs were achieved by:
● Ariana Lewis (U-13G), 100m, 15.23 and long jump, 3.79m
● Henry Knox (U-17M), 200m, 23.68 secs, slicing 0.8 secs off his previous best to win his race
● Ross Bone (U-13B), 800m, 2 min 37.47 secs, knocking 2 secs off his previous 800m PB at Stevenage a week earlier
● Sureyya Akay (U-17W), 200m, 26.71 secs
● Donncha Blake (U-20M), javelin (800gm), 40.39m
One further BAC highlight was provided by Noah Buckley (U-20M) who won his 100m race by just 0.02 secs in 11.95 secs, his fastest known time since 2023, with a well-timed dip on the line.
*The main Bedfordshire county track and field championships, which as usual will be combined with the Hertfordshire county championships, will be held at the same Bedford stadium over the weekend of May 10/11. Entries for that close on April 29.
