Five-star performance by BAC Juniors at latest EYAL meeting!
BAC Juniors in the Bedfordshire Lions team which competed in this season’s third Eastern Young Athletes League (EYAL) meeting achieved an impressive five ‘A’ event wins – their most in the league to date this year.
Equally encouraging was the fact that half the BAC athletes in the composite (BAC and Luton AC) Lions squad for the meeting at Chelmsford on Sunday June 15 achieved new PBs, with several notching significant improvements.
BAC’s ‘A’ event winners at Chelmsford were:
● Oran Blake who won the U-17M high jump with a new PB of 1.75m and the hammer with a throw of 40.40m (he also finished second in the discus)
● Nathania Lewis who won the U-13G 200m with a time of 27.60 and the long jump with a leap of 4.23m
● Henry Knox who won the U-17M 800m in 2:04.61, just 0.4 secs off his PB and own club record, ahead of two Chelmsford home club runners who both had faster PBs/SBs than him.
New PBs were achieved by:
● Katie Everitt, U-13G: 200m (32.26); long jump (3.33m)
● Ayla Akay, U-13G: 800m (2:50.98), nearly 7 seconds faster than her previous PB achieved at last month’s EYAL meeting in Watford
● Ariana Lewis, U13G: long jump (3.85m)
● Tomás Mendelssohn, U-13B: 100m (14.53), long jump (3.78m)
● Austin Milner, U-15B: 1500m (4:54.96), some 3.6 seconds faster than his previous PB, also run at the EYAL Watford meeting
● Oran Blake, U-17M: high jump (1.75m).
Other noteworthy achievements included those of the several BAC athletes who competed in three events to help boost the Lions’ presence and points total. They included Katie (100m, 200m, long jump); Ayla (200m, 800m, shot put); Ariana (100m, 70mH, long jump); Nathania (200m, high jump, long jump); and Oran (high jump, hammer, discus). Also, a welcome back to sprinter Sureyya Akay who represented the Lions in the U-17G shot put as she continues her recovery from a hamstring injury.
*The final EYAL match of the season is at Luton on Sunday July 27 – much closer to home than the June meeting! A strong turnout from BAC alongside their team mates from home club Luton would really help the Lions finish the league season with a bang!
EYAL meetings are a great way to experience competitive athletics in a friendly, fun team environment. If you are the parent/guardian of a BAC Junior who would like to join the team for the Luton EYAL meeting, please email us (see contact details in the June Junior Newsletter) with the name and age group of the athlete and the disciplines they would like to compete in (maximum of three events plus relays).
