Gold medals and an event hat-trick at Schools District Championship

Congratulations to the four BAC Juniors who won gold medals at this month’s Mid-Bedfordshire Schools District Athletics Championships.

Three of them won their medals at the school years 9/10/11 championships held at the Bedford International Athletic Stadium on Wednesday May 21. They were Henry Knox in the intermediate boys 800m, completing a notable hat-trick after winning the same event last year and the junior boys 800m in 2023; Sidney Hammond in the intermediate boys 1500m which he led from start to finish; and Lauren Bone in the junior girls 1500m.

Sid also finished third in the IB high jump, with the first three all clearing the same final height and the finishing positions being decided on countback, and won the IB 1500m steeplechase as a ‘guest’ runner. Another BAC athlete, Isla Anderson, qualified for two junior girls’ finals, the 200m and the 4 x 100m relay, and also competed in the shot put.

BAC’s fourth gold medal winner was Ross Bone who won the javelin event at the school years 7/8 district championships held in the same stadium a week earlier. He also finished 4th in the 800m. Two other BAC Juniors also competed in those championships and achieved top three finishes in the 1500m − Theo Milner in the year 7 race and Austin Milner in the year 8 race.
