Love was in the air Wednesday evening as Biggleswade AC's runners took on the Valentines 1 Mile Challenge at Sandy athletic track, the home of the Club. The Challenge brought together members from across the different training groups, providing a great opportunity to catch up and run at the same time. Things kicked off with a gentle warm up jog and drills led by BAC Run Leader, Hannah Broom, to ensure all were prepped and ready for the main event - a mile circuit of the track. Everyone completed the mile as fast as possible and finish times were recorded. Congratulations to Alistair Nelson who crossed the line first in 6m 14s, although we need to wait and see who gets the Challenge top spot as everyone’s finish times will be adjusted according to WAVA grading (which considers age, gender and time achieved against the world record timings for the specified distance and respective age groupings and gender profile).
The 1 miler is part of a series of designated monthly events members can opt do to qualify for the 2024 BAC Running League. Points are then awarded based on the graded times achieved for each event, the highest grading receiving 1 point, the next 2 points and so on. The member with the lowest overall score at the end of the year wins the League and as it is done on WAVA grading and event participation it's not necessarily the fastest person who wins!
