BAC athletes produce great performances in latest QuadKids competition

BAC’s youngest athletes took part in another QuadKids competition evening at our Sandy track on Tuesday June 25.

QuadKids is a competition for U-11s encompassing four events - the 75m, 600m, long jump and vortex howler (throwing implement). It is designed to be a first step for young athletes in the world of competitive athletics.

“The latest event took place on a very hot evening but the children were very sensible and all coped well,” reported Louise Cant, BAC’s coach for fundamentals who works with that group.

Nine children took part, eight of whom had participated in previous QuadKids competitions. The newcomer taking part in his first event was Noah who, according to Louise, “did great”. “Well done Noah,” she added.

The group as a whole produced some great results and notched up lots of PBs. That was particularly the case in the throws, “an area we have been focusing on a lot recently”, where everyone achieved PBs.

On the track, there were some great improvements when it came to both the sprints and the 600m, even in the heat. A favourite event for many of the children is the long jump. Five of them improved their distances.

Overall, seven of the young athletes improved their total points score for the four events combined.

Summing up the evening, Louise commented: “Many thanks to Carol for having plenty of cold water available and for setting up the gazebo for some shade for the children between their events. Thanks also go to the officials, timekeeper, starter and everyone else who helped make the evening a success.”

Further QuadKids competitions are planned for September 10 and 12.
