BAC athletes win medals at Eastern Indoor Championships

BAC athletes Nathania Lewis and George Hardy won three medals between them at the 2025 Essex & Eastern Indoor Track and Field Championships held in the Lee Valley Athletics Centre, north London, over the weekend of March 1-2.

Nathania won two medals. The first was a bronze in the U-13G 60m on Saturday, having earlier won both her heat and semi-final. The second, on Sunday, was a silver in the U-13G 200m, having previously won her heat and been 2nd in her semi-final. She also set new club U-13G indoor records in both events 8.49 in the final of the 60m and 27.59 (knocking 1.86 secs of her previous record!) in a heat of the 200m.

George won a silver medal in the U-20M 400m final on Sunday with a time of 53.02, a fine achievement in what was his first indoor race. Indoor 400m races are run over two laps. At the break line, which is 150m into the race, George was in 4th place and needed to get closer to the front. Going into the bend at the start of Lap 2, he had moved into 3rd place and was looking strong. Coming off the final bend he attacked and moved up into 2nd place and was closing on the winner as they crossed the finishing line.

A third BAC athlete, Ariana Lewis, set new PBs in two events. In the U-13G 60m, she ran a PB of 9.33 in her heat to finish 3rd and progress to the semi-finals as one of the fastest non-automatic qualifiers where she ran another new PB of 9.32 to finish 5th. The following day she ran a new PB of 30.66 in her heat of the U-13G 200m to finish 4th.

Nathania and Ariana also both competed in the U-13G long jump. In a total field of 27 competitors, Nathania finished 4th with a jump of 4.09m and Ariana was 13th with a distance of 3.56m.

A fourth BAC member, Donncha Blake, competed in the senior men’s pole vault event as a U-20 non-championships athlete, finishing 4th overall with a clearance of 4.20 which equalled his PB.
