BAC Juniors shine at second Chiltern XC League match
A 10-member BAC Juniors squad achieved five overall top 20 finishes spread across several of the combined Division 1/Division 2 races** at the second Chiltern Cross Country League match of the season in Teardrop Lakes park, Milton Keynes, on Saturday November 9.
Those performances, backed up by good runs from the club’s other five athletes taking part, helped BAC achieve some notable team performances for a relatively small squad in the league’s Division 2 competition. They included coming 8th out of 12 scoring clubs in the overall Juniors category, 3rd of 10 in the U-13B team competition and 4th of 11 in the U-15B.
The first of the club’s top 20 finishers overall was Lewis Evans in the U-11B, with club mate Oscar Findon producing a fine run on his league debut to finish in the top 30. Earlier, Theia Freestone-Bull had been first up for BAC on the day with another good run in the U-11G race.
In the U-13B race, Austin Milner led the way for BAC with a top 20 finish overall in a field of nearly 90 runners − and with Theo Milner and Ross Bone also running well, the three-strong team finished high up the Division 2 leader board.
The U-15B race saw Oliver Weddell and Sidney Hammond both finish in the top 20 out of 80 runners, with Ollie reversing the relative finishing positions of the two club mates at last month’s first league match to come in four places and 16 seconds ahead of Sid this time.
BAC’s fifth top 20 finisher overall on the day was Lauren Bone who achieved that position in a field of nearly 70 for the U-15G race. Henry Knox rounded off the day for the club with another good run in a very strong U-17M race field.
Afterwards, Alison Bone, BAC's team manager for the Chiltern XC League, commented: "Another fantastic day of cross country racing. Well done to everyone!”
Also, thanks to the following who supplied all the photos to go with this report – Doug Hammond, Helen Milner, Melissa Knox and Phil Hastings.
** Clubs from Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Middlesex, Oxfordshire and Northamptonshire compete in the Chiltern XC League which is organised into two divisions (except for U-11s), with all runners competing in the same races at the same venues. Scoring is done separately for each division. BAC compete in Division 2.
