BAC runners achieve a notable double in national XC championships
Three of BAC’s junior cross country runners completed a notable double success when they ran for Bedfordshire in this year’s English Schools Athletic Association National XC Championships at the Ardingly Showground in West Sussex on Saturday March 15.
Lauren Bone finished 1st of the Bedfordshire team’s six scorers in the Junior Girls race, while Oliver Weddell and Sidney Hammond were 1st and 2nd, respectively, of the county team’s six scorers in the Intermediate Boys event. In doing so, all three replicated their finishing positions for Bedfordshire in the UK Inter-Counties XC Championships the previous Saturday to make it two great performances at national level in the space of a week!
Overall, Lauren came in 209th of the 333 finishers in her race, a fine performance bearing in mind the high standard of competition. In their race, Ollie was 89th and Sid 216th in a field of 327 runners, a great effort as they were both Year 10 students running in a combined event for Year 10s and Year 11s − which meant many of their competitors were a year older.
All three BAC runners had previously qualified for selection for the event by finishing in the top three in their respective races at the Bedfordshire Schools County XC Championships in early February.
