BAC runners make a great start to the Chiltern XC League season

Nine of Biggleswade Athletic Club’s junior athletes got the 2024/25 cross-country season off to a flying start with some fine runs in the opening Chiltern XC League match of the season at Keysoe, Bedfordshire, on Saturday October 12.

Clubs from Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Middlesex, Oxfordshire and Northamptonshire compete in the league which is organised into two divisions (except for U-11s), with all runners competing in the same races at the same venues. Scoring is done separately for each division. BAC compete in Division 2.

Two of the club’s U-11s set the ball rolling for BAC at Keysoe, with Theia Freestone-Bull and Lewis Evans thriving on the encouragement from a big crowd and producing fine performances in the U-11G and U-11B races, respectively.

Next up were Austin Milner, Theo Milner and Ross Bone who combined to produce a great team performance in the U-13B race to claim second place for BAC on the Division 2 team scoreboard for that age group, only four points behind the top club.

The U-15B race saw a great battle between BAC middle distance running training partners Sidney Hammond and Oliver Weddell, with the former pipping the latter by just three seconds as they both claimed top 20 finishes in a total field of 72 runners. They also managed to put BAC into third place on the Division 2 U-15B team scoreboard despite only having two scorers rather than the permitted three.

In the U-15G race, Lauren Bone produced another strong run to finish 14th out of a total field of 62, while Henry Knox ran really well in his first competitive cross-country outing over the longer distance of 6kms to finish 43rd of the total 66 runners in the U-17M race.

Summing up the day, Alison Bone, BAC's team manager for the Chiltern XC League, commented: "Wow, what an amazing start to the cross-country season!! Congratulations to everyone, fantastic results. I hope you all enjoyed the day."
