BAC’s Chiltern XC League team produces two ‘top 10’ performances

BAC’s Juniors produced two ‘top 10’ performances at their latest Chiltern Cross Country League match held in a frosty Cassiobury Park, Watford, on Saturday, January 11.

One was a team achievement, with 10 runners equalling the highest number for the season braving the cold weather and icy ground to give the club representation across all the league’s junior age categories U-11, U-13, U-15 and U-17.

The second was the club’s first top 10 individual finish in an overall Division 1/Division 2 race** with Oliver Weddell building on his strong recent form to finish 8th in the U-15B event. Team-mate Sidney Hammond was not far behind in 14th place, his own highest league finish of the season. Despite only having two scorers (rather than the three allowed), the Ollie/Sid team is currently 4th (of 12) in the Division 2 U-15B league with one match to go.

The three-man U-13B team of Austin Milner (14th), Theo Milner (28th) and Ross Bone (40th) again performed strongly to maintain 2nd place (of 10) in their league, only six points behind leaders Redway Runners with one match to go.

BAC also had three U-11 runners, Theia Freeston-Bull who achieved a season’s best finish of 28th in the girls’ event, and Lewis Evans (21st) and Oscar Findon (33rd) in the boys’ race.

BAC’s representatives in the two older junior age groups were Lauren Bone (16th) in the U-15G and Henry Knox (47th) in the U-17M.

Alison Bone, BAC's team manager for the Chiltern XC League, commented: “Well done to everyone for braving the freezing conditions and producing another set of fantastic results. It was particularly encouraging to see three U-11s in the team.

“Our final league match of this season, in Oxford on February 8, is a bit of a drive for us but it would be great to see as many BAC runners as possible turn out to provide a fitting finale to what has been a fantastic season.”

** Clubs from Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Middlesex, Oxfordshire and Northamptonshire compete in the Chiltern XC League which is organised into two divisions (except for U-11s), with all runners competing in the same races at the same venues. Scoring is done separately for each division. BAC compete in Division 2.
