After the recent heavy rain, the weather conditions for the Leighton 10 miler proved perfect for the Biggleswade AC contingent taking on this challenging course last Sunday. Known for its scenic setting at Ascott House and Gardens, Wing, this race offers some rather testing hills especially at the last mile when legs are tired. For the second year running it was Biggleswade AC's designated 10-mile Club Championship race, and very much in contrast to previous years' Fen 10 flat-ish course.
Thirteen members were not to be deterred, however, and excellent performances achieved all round. First to cross the line for BAC was Rob Morgan in a time of 1:03:12, followed by new member Rosanna Bartlett in a PB of 1:10:09. Rosanna secured second female in the race and first in her category as well as first female overall for the Bedfordshire AAA County Championships, a fantastic accomplishment. Both Rob and Rosanna receive the Club Championship honours with the highest age graded times too. Their trophies will be presented at the Club's Awards presentation in the new year.
County Championship first placings also went to Hollie Murtagh in the FV40 category and Natalie Morgan in the FV45 category, with times of 1:35:49 and 1:19:06, respectively. Furthermore, top 5 race finishing positions were attained by Ian Grimwood and Shani Giddings within their age categories, and Paul Swinburne and Jackie Warren within the top 10 for theirs. A special mention must also go to BAC member Juliet Grimwood who cycled around the course to give much welcomed cheers of support.
Next up is the 10k Club Championship this coming weekend, Sunday 6th October - Standalone 10k.
