As per Biggleswade AC tradition, the Senior Road Running section donned their magical wings for the pre-Christmas Fairy Run on Saturday. Congregating at the RSPB HQ for a pre-run photo opportunity and to take time to admire the array of costumes, the Fairies were all in good spirits. In charge of the merriment was Damien Pitts, who in his 22nd year of co-ordinating announced it would be his last this year, with the fairy wand being passed on to new Fairy Run Master for 2026. But first Damien had to set everyone off. As in all the years before, there was some light-hearted poking fun at the times assigned - the idea being everyone should finish together after running the 3-mile course. With tutus swaying and wings fluttering, each Fairy headed off out of the RSPB and along Potton Road, Sandy before looping back along Stratford Road and back up to the RSPB. Did you spot the wands-a-waving and trails of fairy dust?
First back was Phil Rowlett who has had a tremendous first year with Biggleswade AC, achieving a PB with his Chester Marathon time back in October. He went away with the prize bottle of tipple to enjoy over the festive period. However, the most coveted prize will always be the Best Dressed Fairy as voted for by the Fairy Run participants. After retreating to the pub for post-Fairy Run drinks and food, the votes were counted and verified with the winner announced as Charlie Arnold for his Rasta-fairy-an costume. Close runners-up and commendations go to Shani Giddings as Christmas Tree Fairy and Rosanna Bartlett for her Fairy Lights outfit, cardboard box plug and all! Well done all, you were Fairy-tastic🧚♂️
A massive thank you to Damien for his commitment over all these years for corralling the BAC Fairies. Although you are hanging up your Fairy Run clipboard and stopwatch, we still hope to see you in a tutu, wig and wings next year!
