Henry and Lauren complete gold medal doubles at Beds Schools County Championships
BAC’s Henry Knox and Lauren Bone both completed a school athletics gold medal double when they won their events at this year’s Bedfordshire Schools County Athletics Championships held in the Bedford international Athletic Stadium on Wednesday June 11.
Lauren set the ball rolling by leading the junior girls 1500m race from start to finish to win convincingly in a time of 5:14 and add that gold medal to the one she won in the same event at last month’s Mid-Bedfordshire Schools District Athletics Championships.
Half an hour later, Henry took to the track for the intermediate boys 800m race also looking to follow up a gold medal in that event at the recent district championships. He went to the front halfway through the first lap and stayed there to win in 2:09. That made him a double double school athletics gold medallist, having also won the same event at both the county and district championships in 2024! He was also called up as a late replacement for the Mid-Bedfordshire Schools’ intermediate boys 4x100m team and helped them to finish 2nd.
A third BAC athlete, Sidney Hammond, produced a fine performance in the intermediate boys 1500m steeplechase, finishing 2nd in what was only his second competitive race in that event. He also competed in the high jump.
