Mud, Glorious Mud!

Following the cancellation of the second race of the Three Counties Cross Country League due to Storm Bert, the next race hosted by North Herts Road Runners was hotly anticipated this past weekend. In true cross country style the course was a mix of track, trail and fields with testing hills – taking place just on the outskirts of Baldock. The start comprised of lots of slipping and sliding as the runners tried to navigate the puddles and quagmire of mud making it hard to get going, but things soon opened up once on firmer ground along the various tracks and trails. Representing Biggleswade AC on the day were 18 members, including cross country yellow and blue debuts for Tim McGlashan, Nick McGlashan and Louise Thomas.

First home for BAC was Nicholas Sinclair coming in 32nd in a field of over 360 and thus the first place scorer for the BAC Men’s Team. Whilst Roxann Holder was the top scorer for the Women’s Team with her final position, securing another superb 3rd position in her age category alongside her previous performance at Wellingborough in October. There were also several top 10 age category placings - Ian Grimwood (2nd), Louise Thomas (4th), Rob Morgan (5th), Natalie Morgan (5th) and James Watson (9th).  Altogether the BAC Team contributed to a final overall 10th place and are currently sitting 11th in the League after the two races. Next outing will be Sunday 12th January at  Stopsley, near Luton.

Thanks again to member Bev Strong for coordinating entries and undertaking the administration for the BAC runners.

Full League results are published on the Three Counties Cross Country League website.

The Three Counties Cross Country League runs from October to February. All races are off-road and routes are typically along trails and footpaths, through woodland, parkland or around farmland. It's a fun, social League solely based on finishing position rather than time. And as a reward, tea and cake are served afterwards for all runners.
