Nathania and Ariana have “a fantastic outing” at Lee Valley Minithon
BAC Juniors Nathania and Ariana Lewis competed at the Lee Valley Minithon in north London on Saturday March 22 and between them claimed a new club indoor record, three new PBs and two medals. In the words of their parents, “they had a fantastic outing”!
The Minithon is described as a ‘mini Olympics’ where children in schools years 3-7 can take part in a range of track & field events and have fun at the same time. Participants can compete in up to three events during the day, with points awarded for each performance to produce a final points tally. The first 10 in each gender/age group are awarded gold medals, the next 10 get silvers and the following 10 get bronzes.
Nathania and Ariana competed in the Year 6&7 Girls category against nearly 70 other athletes from all over East and South East England. Their impressive results were:
Nathania:
● Overall: Placed 4th with a score of 209 points to gain a gold medal
● Long Jump: A new PB and a new BAC indoor record for the U-13G LJ with a distance of 4.20m
● Sprints: Clocked 8.52 secs in the 60m and 27.74 secs in the 200m
Ariana:
● Overall: Placed 17th with a score of 166 points to secure a silver medal
● Long Jump: Jumped 3.66m
● Sprints: New PBs in both the 60m and 200m with times of 9.23 secs and 30.54 secs, respectively.
During the meeting, Nathania and Ariana also met the event’s ‘Guest Athlete for the Day’, former GB sprinter Reece Prescod (see Facebook photos) whose achievements included winning a silver medal in the 100m at the European Championships in 2018, reaching the semi-finals of the same event at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and being British men’s 100m champion in 2017 and 2018.
