The second race in the Three Counties Cross Country league last Sunday saw a much improved Biggleswade AC turnout after the team challenges of the first outing last month. The race was held at a firm favourite, Delapre Park in Wootton, Northamptonshire. The course was a mix of parkland and trails through narrow wooded sections offering a challenging, technical run and where tactics played just as an important part as one's speed and strength. Fielding a team of eighteen seniors, Biggleswade AC was still one of the smaller clubs to participate but strong performances shone through. Jonathan Quinn came in first for the blue and yellows, with a placing of 27th overall and 8th in his age category. Rob Morgan wasn't too far behind in 38th and achieved a fantastic 2nd place in his age category - a great result and a welcome return to racing after a period out from running. Three Counties league debuts for the BAC men's team were made by Neil Warren and Sam Wall who both secured top 20 positions in their respective age categories. Charlie Arnold, Giles Hawthorne, Jake Genever and Stuart Highland made up the remaining scoring positions for the men. For the women's team, Nicky Upperton continued to go from strength to strength gaining a 4th female placing and a phenomenal 1st in her age category, bettering her 5th female overall from the previous race at Irchester Park and maintaining her first place age category status. Roxann Holder, Felicity Wall (another cross country debutant for BAC) and Jackie Warren secured the other three scoring positions for the women, all achieving top 10 placings in their respective age categories. The BAC Team results for the race saw the men come 13th and the women 11th, with combined 12th overall. Biggleswade AC now stand 13th in the league, moving up one place from 14th. Next up is Baldock on 14th December.
