SEAA Inter Counties XC Champs proves to be hard slog!

BAC athletes running for Bedfordshire in this year’s SEAA (South of England Athletics Association) Inter Counties Cross Country Championships on Saturday November 29 found it a hard slog – and not just on the course!

Competitors and supporters who opted to travel by public transport to the venue, at Horsenden Hill, Greenford, west London, had to navigate four or five train/bus services to get there, while those who went by car had to drive through heavy rain.

The racing itself also proved hard. Eleven counties entered teams, resulting in fields of well over a hundred each race and a high standard of competition. The course was a fast one but very slippery in places, particularly after another bout of heavy rain soon after racing started.

Bedfordshire entered teams of up to eight in each race, with the leading four finishers contributing to the team score. Three of BAC’s five runners were scorers Sidney Hammond was the second Beds runner home in the U-17M race and 87th overall; Ross Bone was the third Beds runner in the U-13B and 95th overall; and Lauren Bone was the third scorer in the U-15G and 103rd overall. BAC’s other two runners were Austin Milner, 107th in the U-15B, and Henry Knox, 107th in the U-17M.
