Biggleswade AC is proud to announce two of its athletes have attained qualification for England Athletics’ U15 and U17 National Championships taking place later this month in Birmingham.
At the Biggleswade AC hosted Jumps Fest on 21st June, Koye Sule competed in the Triple Jump event to record a Personal Best of 11.60m. For his age category of under 15s, this surpassed the entry standard of 11.30m and thus becoming automatically eligible for the U15 National Championships.
Congratulations also to Donncha Blake, who achieved a PB of 3.80m in the Pole Vault on Wednesday 2nd August and his qualification for the U17 National Championships. Furthermore, this sets a new Biggleswade Athletic Club U17 record. This was a tremendous effort with Donncha achieving significant gains this season to improve on last year’s PB of 2.90m - supported by his mum and Biggleswade AC coach, Niamh, as well as Bedford-based coaches Jemma and Simon Eastwood.
Back in July Donncha had been close to achieving the qualifying height of 3.70m, clearing 3.50m and then 3.60m. With 3.70m in his sights, Donncha was invited to compete at the recent athletics meet on 2nd August, held at the Athletics Track in Sandy – the training base for BAC athletes – to have one last opportunity to qualify. After two failed attempts at an opening height of 3.40m pressure was mounting, but unfazed Donncha was successful on the third go and proceeded straight to the qualifying height of 3.70m which was cleared on the first attempt. Not stopping there, the bar was set at 3.80m and this too was cleared, giving him this fantastic new PB.
The England Athletics U15 and U17 National Championships will be held at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham on 26th-27th August 2023. If you would like to know more about what Biggleswade Athletic Club offers, please do check out the Membership and Training pages or feel free to email
