Biggleswade Athletic Club had several runners participate in last weekend's Bedford Running Festival. After the cool weather of recent weeks, the temperature soared and meant for hot race conditions both Saturday and Sunday, nonetheless our runners put in sterling performances.
The Bedford Running Festival encompasses 4 race distances: 5k, Twilight 10k, Half Marathon and 20 miles. In the Twilight 10k, BAC's Emma Bell, Julie Cooke, Jennie Day, Louise Hatfield-Pike and Jackie Warren took to the start line in Russell Park on Saturday evening. The race route took the 680+ runners along the river and around Priory Country Park, returning to the Park to finish. Jennie was first BAC runner home, with a time of 56:20 and 11th in her age category, followed shortly after by Jackie who recorded a time of 58:56 and 17th position for her age category. On Sunday morning it was the turn of the Half Marathon which took in an extended version of the previous day's 10k to include Bedford town centre, around Priory Country Park and on to Willington along the Sustrans Route 51. BAC's Emily Varley not only ran a fantastic time of 1:26:36, but also took the prize for first female (out of 254 female finishers) and was 17th overall from a total of 718 finishers. Congratulations to everyone who took part!
