New club record and many PBs at Biggleswade AC Track Fest

Highlights of this year’s Biggleswade AC Track Fest involving home athletes included a new club record, over a dozen new PBs and several exciting close finishes between club mates.

The open competition, held at our Sandy track on Wednesday, July 17, attracted 70 entries from 14 clubs spread across seven events 100m, 200m, 300m, 400m, 800m, 3,000m and 10,000m.

The new club record was set by Lauren Bone in the 3,000m, knocking almost seven seconds of her own only recently-established U-15G record for that distance with a time of 11.34.48.

New PBs were set by Koye Sule, 400m (53.41) and 800m (2.18.7); Ryan Kennerley, 400m (53.6); Freddie Steele, 200m (23.48); Polly Lawrence, 200m (37.07) and 800m (3.15.52); and Oliver Weddell, 3,000m (10.33.87). Six BAC athletes set new PBs for the 100m: Alfie Shadbolt (12.76); Arlo Treece (13.49); Ayla Akay (14.88); Harri Maund (15.40); Ariana Lewis (15.45); and Theo Gregg (16.85).

The first of several tight finishes between BAC athletes started with the opening race of the evening when Koye and Ryan finished 1st and 2nd in the 400m with just 0.2 of a second between them. Later on, Freddie Steele (23.48) and Ryan (23.97) finished a close 1st and 2nd in the 200m A race. In the 800m A race, Koye held off Sidney Hammond by just 0.3 of a second as they finished 3rd and 4th respectively after battling down the home straight.

There were two other BAC event wins – Freddie took the 100m A race in 11.62 and Sureyya Akay won the 100m B race in 13.10.

Thanks go to all the volunteer officials who made sure the evening ran smoothly.

As always we finished with our 10,000m Beds and Herts County championships. Congratulations to all who came and braved the gruelling 25 laps around our track.

Finally a huge congratulations to Ted Islip who competed in his first ever race at our track fest running the 100m in 20.3 seconds.
