New club record and three PBs at the SEAA Inter Counties Championships
Congratulations to the 11 BAC athletes selected for the Bedfordshire team which took part in this year’s South of England Athletic Association (SEAA) Inter Counties Championships at Horspath, Oxford, over the weekend of September 7/8.
In the U-15/U-17 Championships, held on the Sunday, BAC’s standout performer was Sidney Hammond who broke his own club record for the U-15B 800m by over a second with a new PB of 2.11.75 in the final of that event. Later in the afternoon, he also represented Bedfordshire in that age group’s high jump competition.
There was a second notable performance among the four other BAC juniors in the Bedfordshire team − Orlagh Brunning achieved a new PB of 9.78m in the U-17W shot put. She also competed in the discus.
The rest of the BAC contingent in the U-15/U-17 team were Sureyya Akay (U-15G 100m and shot put); Lauren Bone (U-15G 1500m); and Oran Blake (U-17M discus and hammer).
The previous day, six BAC members competed for Bedfordshire in the SEAA’s U-20/Senior Inter Counties Championships.
Four were in the U-20 competition, where the BAC highlight was Hannah Brunning achieving a new PB of 9.66m in the women’s shot put to finish 2nd in that event. She also came 3rd in the discus with a SB throw of 34.93m.
BAC’s three other U-20 representatives were Freddie Steele (men’s 100m and 200m); Donncha Blake (men’s pole vault, where he finished 2nd, discus and high jump); and Arlo Treece (men’s javelin).
In the Senior championships, Leonie Brunning won the women’s high jump with a clearance of 1.60m and also competed in the shot put and long jump, while Ryan Kennerley ran in the men’s 100m and 110m hurdles.
